Spring is an exciting time in the South Carolina Low Country.

Large Redfish well over the slot limit are beginning to move into the creeks and guarantee a strong fight. Slot Redfish are starting to become more active around oyster beds and sandbars in the inlets and bays.

Spotted Sea Trout are moving into the bays and inlets as silver dollar menhaden begin to move into Georgetown.

Flounder are also moving inshore with the bait. They have been fighting hard, but many are just under the 15-inch size limit. However as it continues to warm, you can guarantee we will only keep catching more flounder!

Aside from excellent fishing, the Santee Coastal Wildlife Reserve and Tom Yawkey Wildlife Preserve provide excellent opportunities for observing migratory birds. For example, this is the time of year to see the Swallow-Tailed Kite on its migration North from Central and South America.

The fishing for all species will only get better as the weather warms. The thick schools of mullet and menhaden will continue to bring in Bull Redfish, King Mackerel and Tarpon will be close behind them!"
